Microsoft Adds Passkeys To Windows 11

Good news for Microsoft users who don’t want the burden of having passwords!

Microsoft is rolling out support for Passkeys in Windows 11 as part of a significant desktop update.

As part of this update, a new feature will enable users to log in to websites and applications without the need for a username and password. Instead, users will use a device PIN or biometric information to complete the authentication process.

This feature is known as Passkeys, and it offers a more secure and convenient alternative to traditional passwords. Passkeys can be used without the need for additional sign-in challenges, resulting in a faster, more secure, and more convenient authentication process.

Passkeys vs. Passwords

Unlike passwords, Passkeys are easy to generate, do not require memorization, and do not need to be safeguarded. Moreover, Passkeys are unique to each website or application, preventing their reuse.

But are they secure? Absolutely! What’s remarkable about Passkeys is their uniqueness for each website or application, which eliminates the risk of reuse. Additionally, they are exclusively stored on the user’s device.

Furthermore, Passkeys are highly resistant to phishing attempts, where attackers attempt to deceive users into revealing their private keys.

Users can also use a Passkey from one device to log in to another, providing cross-device and cross-platform authentication.

Microsoft’s Passkeys will be available on multiple browsers, including popular ones like Firefox, Google Chrome, and Edge.
